Development of Graduate Certificate in Musculoskeletal Nursing

The NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) has a Musculoskeletal Nurse Education Working Group that is working on developing a Graduate Certificate in Musculoskeletal Nursing with the College of Nursing.

The idea of this broad base is so that the coruse will appeal to a larger population of nurses involved in chronic care, and this will give the critical mass of numbers for the course.

A Graduate Certificate has 4 modules. Each module is 150 hours, so there will be plenty to get started on!

It is planned that the first 2 modules will be available July 2012; the following 2 available July 2013.

The NSW Government is supporting this initiative, so funding for development will be available.

Through meetings with the College of Nursing, a broad outline of the modules has been developed. This will be refined, then specific outcomes and content will be developed. The programme will them have to be written and reviewed by people with expertise in this area. This, by default, means the type of experience RHPA members have. Anyone who would like to be considered for this role, please contact Wendy Gellately ( or Margaret Crowe
